Valley Landfill Energy Project

  • Location: The Valley Landfill Energy Project is located at the Valley Landfill in Irwin, Pennsylvania approximately fifteen miles from the city of Pittsburgh. The landfill site is owned and operated by Waste Management Inc. The landfill itself is one of the largest in western Pennsylvania receiving over 1,200 tons of refuse per day.
  • Gas Production: The landfill currently produces approximately 1,400 Standard Cubic feet per Minute of raw landfill gas. This raw gas, once introduced to our facility, is processed and is capable of producing approximately 1,000 dekatherms of pipeline quality gas per day. This volume of gas is enough to produce approximately six (6) megawatts of electrical energy 24 hours per day using today's more efficient electric generation facilities. One megawatt of electricity serves the electrical needs of approximately 1,000 homes at a given point in time. The Valley Energy Project has a long-term contract with Waste Management for the purchase of its landfill gas.

Monroeville Landfill Energy Project

  • Location:  The Monroeville Landfill Energy Project is located at the Monroeville landfill in Monroeville, Pennsylvania also approximately fifteen miles from the city of Pittsburgh. This landfill site is also owned and operated by Waste Management Inc. This landfill, like the Valley site is also one of the largest in western Pennsylvania receiving more than 1,200 tons of refuse per day.
  • Gas Production:  The Monroeville landfill, like the Valley landfill currently produces approximately 1,400 Standard Cubic Feet per Minute of raw landfill gas. This raw gas, once introduced to our facility, is processed and is capable of producing approximately 1,000 dekatherms of pipeline quality gas per day.
